Define the polling interval, i.e., how often a check for installation jobs should be performed each day.

Define the parameters that are relevant for each polling interval.

Polling Settings

During each run, the new Empirum Agent is launched with three different calls. The first call is always done with the /WU parameter to delete existing user-specific installations, if the client-specific installations have already been deleted. The second call is always done with the /C parameter to check if there are pending user-specific installations, if the client-specific installation has already been performed. The activated parameters are only addressed in the third call.

  • Polling Interval (/K). There is a check whether new software has been added for distribution. The check is performed every x minutes. If token files are used, this option is mandatory.

After an activation / deactivation of the tokens (through Matrix42 DBUtil) all Empirum Agent templates are opened and saved, to make the change in the configuration file.

  • Respect Presentation Mode. If the user enables the option, the agent behavior during a presentation is the same as if the computer was not within the maintenance time frame. No software installations will be performed except for packages with the distribution flag "Ignore Installation Time Frame".
  • Installation Time Frame (Time-dependent polling). Defines the interval where installations are performed. Outside this time, checks are performed, based on the specified polling interval, and pending software is downloaded, as required. Use the left mouse key to mark a section and activate/deactivate it with the respective buttons.
    • Advanced Settings. Here you can make settings that extend the period beyond 7x24 hours. This can be necessary for servers that have only every 4 weeks a free time slot to install (e.g. every 4 weeks on Saturday from 22-24 hours but not on 24th December).
Click this button to receive the following notification:
Installations are performed at the configured times in addition to the already defined weekly schedule.
      SWM_EA_009a
      • Additional Times. Click Add to define additional times in the scheduler.
      • Prohibited Times (Higher Priority). Click Add to define excluded times in the scheduler.
    • Use UTC time. If this option is enabled (checked), the time-dependent polling (time of Empirum master server) applies on all computers that got assigned to this Empirum Agent template. If the option is disabled (default), the local time of the computer is used for the time-dependent polling.
  • Use WOL before software installation. If this option is enabled (checkmarked), the respective computer will be booted (WakeOnLan) prior to installation.

Miscellaneous Settings

  • Pause before running software depot. Before the first execution of the Empirum Agent (start of the service) there is a pause of sec seconds.
  • Validate packages before installation. With this option you can activate the check of the packages to be distributed. The check takes place before installation by comparing the hash value generated on the server with the hash value generated locally before the installation.
  • Validate digital signature of files. This option activates the signature verification of the meta data in the software depot. The UEM Agent checks the correctness of the signature. The signature can be configured in the properties of the administration module. Further information can be found in the administration properties.
  • Install immediately after download.
In case of larger packages or a weak connection the download of a package may take quite some time.
If this option is enabled, all pending packages for distribution will be installed immediately after the complete download.
If this option is disabled, all pending packages for distribution will be installed at the beginning of the next polling interval after the complete download.
  • Maximum number of failed installation attempts. If this option is enabled (checkmarked), no more installation attempts will be performed for the respective package once the maximum number of failed attempts defined has been reached. An entry is made in the log that the maximum number of failed installations has been reached.
  • Disable automatic update for user parts after reinstallation. After a reinstallation of a package the user part (if available) will be reinstalled automatically for all users of the package.
No automatic reinstallation of the user part will be executed if this option is enabled. Disabling is recommended when using roaming profiles.
  • Allow software push. If the option Allow software push is enabled, a software installation can be initiated from the central server via UDP push message to the client computer. If the option is disabled, the agent does not accept any push messages.

A restart of the Empirum Agent or the computer is required after changing the option Allow software push. After that the change becomes active.

  • Send status log messages. If enabled the agent will send at polling time additional status log to the server in the following cases:
    • After the first successful connection to the Empirum server once a day
    • After a version change of the Agent service
    • At the beginning and the end of the installation mode (Installation time frame)
    • At the beginning and the end of presentation mode (if configured to be regarded)
  • Enable "Install and Shutdown". If enabled, the end user will have the option to "Install and Shutdown" in the context menu of the UEM Agent Tray Icon. Also the option "Until shutdown" in the "Postpone" window is only visible if this setting is enabled.

Reboot Settings

  • Suppress reboot. No reboot is performed, even if such a reboot is required. The message that a reboot is required is also suppressed.
  • Remind user that the system has to be rebooted after software installation. If a reboot is initiated through a software installation, the user will also be asked in silent mode (package is launched with the /S0 flag) if he wants to reboot or not.
    • Time between reminders. After the time specified for this option, the user is informed that a reboot is required.
    • Time until forced reboot. After the time specified for this option, a forced reboot of the respective system will be performed. The logged-in user is informed on a regular basis (time between reminders) that a reboot will be performed in X minutes.
  • Skip Pre-Boot Authentication. If a reboot is required after package installations, the agent disables pre-boot authentication for that reboot. In this case, the password does not need to be entered, and the installation can continue without user intervention. The pre-boot authentication technique must be selected from the drop-down list.
  • Select PBA file. When using EgoSecure, a pre-boot authentication policy file must be selected here in which the deactivation of the PBA is configured for a reboot.
