Overview of SNMP Rules and Mappings
If you go to SNMP Rules and Mappings in the directory tree, the following overview is displayed:

All available SNMP Rules and Mappings are displayed in the directory tree in the right window. Device Discovery distinguishes between SNMP Rules and SNMP Mappings.
-
SNMP Rules are always marked with the
icon. They help to detect a network device and serve as basis for SNMP mappings. -
SNMP Mappings are always marked with the
icon. They are used for automated inventory, i.e., based on the superordinate SNMP rules, fields are read out of the SNMP devices and written into inventory tables. The writing convention for such mappings is as follows: Table.Column, e.g., Devices.Name.
The SNMP rules and mappings have the following hierarchical structure and can be found on all hierarchical levels: -
SNMP Rules and Mappings (root)
- Type. This level comprises all rules and mappings for network device types.
- Vendor. This level comprises all rules and mappings for vendors.
- Model. This level comprises all rules and mappings for models.
Empirum supplies an enhanced set of standard rules and mappings, which can be extended as required. Standard rules and mappings can, however, not be deleted or edited.
