SNMP rules are used to detect a device type, vendor or model. They also serve as a basis for SNMP Mappings. To set up an SNMP rule, right-click the required level in the directory tree.

  • Type
  • Vendor
  • Model

Then, select New Type, Vendor, or Model in the context menu. Depending on the level, the following dialog is displayed (in the following screenshot, the dialog for the Type level):

DD_SNMP_Regel_Typ_001_ENU

  • Type. Specifies the device type of the created network device.
  • Vendor. Enter the name for the SNMP rule. While as a rule, this should be the vendor name, you can use this field to make any kind of entries.
  • Model. Specifies the model; in the above example, it is any, because the vendor will be newly created.

In this example, vendor and model are grayed out, due to the hierarchical structure of the SNMP rules and mappings. On the level SNMP Rules and Mappings, a new mapping for a network device type is created. Thus, the SNMP rule applies for all vendors and models created below this mapping. Other vendor- and model-specific rules are specified on the two subordinate levels.

  • Type. The user must either select the MAC address or the OID as type of entry for an SNMP rule. Depending on the selection, the input mask is grayed out.
  • OID. Specifies the OID (Object Identifier) whose value shall be read out. The DD_MIB_Browser_Icon button can be used to launch the MIB Browser which helps you to search for possible OIDs
  • Criteria. Specifies the criterion used to assign the OID value/type.
  • Value. Defines the value specified for the selected OID/type.
  • Operator. Defines how the various criteria are linked.
    • AND: All criteria must be met to display the network devices.
    • OR: One of the criteria must be met to display the network devices.
  • Insert. Adds the criterion as SNMP rule.
  • Change. Edits the marked criterion of an SNMP rule.
  • Delete. Deletes the marked criterion of an SNMP rule.
