Important Announcements

.NET Core Hosting Bundle Update

The .Net Core Hosting bundle allows ASP.NET Core apps to run with the Internet Information Services and ensures the communication between Silverback and the Apple Push Notification Service and the Firebase Cloud Messaging on your Windows Server. Since the official support for the bundle in version 6.0 has expired, we have updated to the new version .NET 8.0 with a Long Time Support in this Silverback release. After the Silverback update, please download and install the newest available ASP.NET Core Runtime 8.0 Hosting Bundle and restart your Internet Information Service once to ensure the communication of your Apple and Android Enterprise devices. It is not mandatory to uninstall the old bundle in version 6.0.

Default Profile Assignments for Device Enrollment Program

Over the past few years, we have made several improvements in the Device Enrollment Program, including support for multiple profiles and, more recently, the introduction of enrollment via the Self-Service Portal using the device WebView, in line with current standards. Unfortunately, an issue was introduced during this time: when changes were made to the Default Profile, the updated profile was not automatically assigned to existing devices. As a result, some of you may see empty profile names in your DEP device overview. With this update, the issue has now been resolved, and after the update, we strongly encourage all customers to review their DEP settings and, if any device shows an empty profile name, assign a profile (either the Default or any desired additional profile) once, so that all devices reflect a clean and consistent state.

Overview

New Improvements and Changes

New Features

Improved Label Management and Selection

With this release, we have reworked the way labels are managed in the UI. Previously, labels could be assigned directly to a device with a single click or entered manually as free text when configuring tag assignment rules. While simple, this approach was prone to errors and often led to inconsistencies. Based on customer feedback, we have introduced a dedicated Label Management section in the Admin area:

  • After the update to this version, all existing labels within the system will be migrated to this new section.
  • You can now create, edit, and delete labels centrally.
  • Labels that are automatically assigned through tags are clearly indicated. These labels cannot be deleted until their tag assignment has been removed.
  • The number of devices in the amount of devices column corresponds to the number of devices assigned to a particular label. You can use the Devices tab to search by label to generate an overview list.

In addition, whenever a label needs to be selected across the Management Console, a drop-down menu is now available. This ensures that only valid labels can be chosen, significantly reducing errors and improving usability.

New Bulk Action Capabilities

We have also extended the Device View with powerful new bulk action capabilities. You can now select multiple devices at once and assign labels to them in bulk, greatly simplifying large-scale management. In addition, a new option makes it possible to restart selected devices at once, giving you more flexibility and efficiency in your daily work.

Label and Time Zone configuration in Advanced QR-Codes

This release extends Advanced QR-Code Provisioning with support for label definitions and time zone configuration. When a label is included in the QR code, it will be applied to all devices during enrollment, regardless of whether the device is provisioned via the Self-Service Portal or Automatic Provisioning. If a hardware authentication entry exists for the device, the configuration from hardware authentication will take precedence. For security reasons, if the QR code contains a label that is not known to Silverback, the label assignment will be skipped. Configuring the Time Zone, ensures that enrolled devices are immediately configured with the correct Time Zone, reducing manual adjustments, preventing scheduling errors, and improving the overall user experience.

Multi-SIM Visibility and Search Enhancements

We’ve improved multi-SIM card handling across the platform. In the Management Console, under Devices in the Managed, Blocked, and Checked Out sections, you can now enable two new columns (SIM 1 and SIM 2) for easier visibility. The search parameter previously labeled Mobile has been renamed to Phone Number and now searches across both SIM columns within each tab. Additionally, both phone numbers are now included in Dashboard exports. Finally, the Companion app will also transmit both phone numbers to the management system for Android Enterprise devices, and the view of the network and SIM card information has been adapted to the display on iPhone devices in the device view.
