To support current hardware - keyword Skylake - you can download the EPE 4 via the Matrix42 Marketplace. For more detailed information, such as the EPE 4 is to be used, please refer to the how-to (PDF format).
Serves to selecting the installation type which configures the way the operating system will be installed.
To create an installation disk, please proceed as follows:
- In the navigation bar switch to Configuration > OS Installer > Bootdisk > Disk Configuration.
- Enter as required additional information for the new disk configuration under General > Description.
- Select a Boottemplate under Installation Type > Installation type (Double click).
In the selection list Installation type there is the possibility to bind different EPE versions to a certain EPE image by selecting them under Installation type. Default should be "Empirum PE2 Latest Version", because it always uses the latest available source. This is the only way to create different EPE images at once using Tools > EPE-Boot Images update. The prerequisite is that they have been downloaded via the driver management.

- General
- Description
Field for additional information regarding the boot disk.
- Installation
- Installation type
Here you can set how the installation of the operating system is to take place. When selecting the installation type, the fields Comment and Network are filled out automatically.
You can choose from 16 templates. You can also create new templates basing on the default templates. For that read the section Modifying Boot Templates.
The following templates are available to you:
- Preinstallation Environment
This option will be removed in a future release.

- Empirum Preinstallation Environment
Creates a PXE image or a boot CD for the installation of operating systems with the Empirum Preinstallation Environment. A closer description of the settings for the Empirum Preinstallation Environment can be found in the section Installation Type Empirum Preinstallation Environment.
The Empirum Preinstallation Environment alternatively supports the installation of Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista, also on computers with 4 or more gigabytes of memory. Novell networks are not supported at this time.
- Language
Appears only if Empirum Preinstallation Environment was selected. Select the language in which the Empirum Preinstallation Environment is displayed.
- Description
Contains additional information about the selected installation type.
- Network
Contains information about the preinstallation environment type.
- Floppy Disk Update
Each disk configuration contains a version number, which is increased after the update, and stored on the Empirum Server. This diskette version number is valid per saved diskette configuration. If an automatic update of a diskette configuration is desired, the checkbox Update floppy disk configuration has to be activated, i.e. it has to be ticked. Then, before the installation of the operating system via disk, the version number of the disk configuration is checked. If the version number on the disk is smaller than the one on the Empirum server, then the current configuration is transferred to the disk first, and then the installation of the operating system is started with the latest version.
This function is deactivated in the configuration of the Empirum Preinstallation Environment.
- Monitoring
A web server is launched on the system in the Empirum Preinstallation Environment (EPE) to display the progress of installation within a web site. If the Monitoring function is enabled, it is possible to view the installation status of the respective computer from any system. The required IP address can be found in the system's PXE log. This function also enables SSH access, which allows you to connect to the system via secure shell (e.g., Putty).
- Kernel Parameters
If the Custom option is enabled for this parameter, you can supply the kernel with specific boot parameters, for instance, to modify resolution, set specific debug options etc. A selection of potential kernel parameters can be found in the section Kernel Parameters.
- Info Level
This option defines how many messages are displayed on the system or via the web server. While this function is very helpful for debugging purposes, the great amount of information may confuse users.
- Debug Level
This option allows you to specify how much information is transferred to the Empirum server. The information is stored in the PXE log or the log files in the MAC8 directory (.\Empirum\EmpInst\Wizard\OS\Auto\last 8 digits of the system's MAC address\).
| Level | Log |
|---|---|
| 0 | Only error messages are logged. |
| 1 + 2 | Format NTFS: The formatting is performed using the -v (verbose execution) parameter. |
| 3 + 4 |
Commands: Each command line to be executed is logged. Format: Information about the partitions are logged. |
| 5 to 9 |
Copy: Information about file copying actions are logged. Format NTFS: The formatting is performed using the -debug (Really verbose execution) parameter with debug messages. |
| 10 | Copy: Information about file copying actions are detailed logged. |
From Debug-Level = 3 SKUs and other security-related information are displayed in plain text. This can limit errors in these areas. If log files are requested from this level by Matrix42 support, you may decide to leave that information in it or delete it.
From Empirum v14 SP1 passwords are no longer displayed in plain text if they are at least six characters long!
