Shows the selection of the user of the installation, the IP configuration of the boot disk and the log-in information for the Empirum server - domain or workgroup.

  1. Under Client Properties on the Boot Disk > Disk Configuration tab, enter the user name and password of the installation user and specify the network properties of the Empirum installation server.

OSI_BootD_DiskConf_009

  • Login Data

Specifies the user and the password needed to log on to the network.

This user needs to have administrator rights in the network.

  • User

Name of the user to log on to the network.

  • Password

Individual character string to identify a user.

  • Confirm Password

Serves to check the password.

  • Save Password

If you check the Save Password option, you will not have to enter the password again when opening this disk configuration the next time.

  • IP Configuration
  • DNS-Server

Enter, if required, the IP address of your DNS server.

  • DHCP

Select the DHCP option if a DHCP server is used in your network. DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) allows the dynamic allocation of IP addresses.

If you do not use DHCP in your network, enter the IP address, the appropriate subnet mask, and the IP address of the default gateway.

  • IP Address

Free IP address which can be used to log on the computer in the network. An IP address is made up of 4 numbers (between 0 and 255) which are separated by dots.

  • Subnet

Together with the IP address, the subnet mask defines the network in which the computer is located.

  • Gateway

The default gateway serves to transmit data to other networks and subnetworks.

  • Server

Shows the parameters of the Microsoft network. Specify the settings of the network in which the operating system is to be installed. The parameter of a Novell Network are described below.

The following options apply only if you create an installation disk for a Microsoft network.

  • Domain

If the computers are organized in a domain, select Domain to be able to access the fields Domain Controller and IP Address. A domain consists of shared resources and their users.

  • Workgroup

A workgroup is made up of several computers, which were allocated a shared group name.

  • Domain Controller

Manages the user account database which applies to the entire domain.

  • Domain Controller IP Address

An IP address is made up of 4 numbers (between 0 and 255) which are separated by dots.

  • Installation Server

Represents the server in the network which you have selected as the installation server.

  • Installation Server IP Address

An IP address is made up of 4 numbers (between 0 and 255) which are separated by dots.

  • Share name Installer (maximum 8 characters)

Under Windows, you can only access the resources of another computer if you have a shared permission. The sharing name is defined by the network administrator. Per default, a hidden sharing permission EMPINST$ is preset.

  • Share name Configurator (max. 8 characters)

By default, a hidden CONFIGURATOR$ share is preset; it is used to read out the INI files and installation packages required for installation.

  • PXE Messages

Settings for replies referring to the PXE boot process. The replies always have to be sent to the service server. If replies are sent beyond the router into other networks, the service server has to be identified.

  • Use Unicast (no Broadcast)

Check this box if replies are also to be sent beyond the router.

  • Installation Server = Service Server (PXE)

Check this option if the installation server and the service server are identical.

  • IP Address of the Service Server

If the installation server and the service server are not identical, enter the IP address of the service server here.

On the service server Empirum needs also access to the file system under the specified Login data credentials. If you have a workgroup/domain environment where no trust settings exist, the user must exist locally with the same password on the Empirum service server.

If you have selected an installation type for a Novell network, the dialog box differs from the one for a Microsoft network, as follows:

  • Novell / Novell Client 32
  • Tree

The NDS tree represents the structure of the Netware server.

You might think of the Netware Directory Services (NDS) as a virtual network, where the Netware servers are organized in a hierarchical structure. This NDS structure is also called an NDS tree.

  • Context

Specifies the path (without the leading dot) from one object to the root of the NDS. The object names are separated by dots.

  • Server

Represents the server in the network which you have selected as the installation server.

  • Installation Drive

Represents the drive of the server which you have selected as the installation server.

  • Frame type

These are standards which define the frames in which the data packets are transmitted through the network. The following frame types are possible: Ethernet 802.2, Ethernet 802.3, Ethernet II, Ethernet_SNAP, Token Ring, and Token Ring_SNAP.
