Overview

Proactive Device Insights uses endpoint information collected through FastViewer, analyzed by Neo, to identify device problems before they disrupt an employee's work. Instead of waiting for a support ticket, Matrix42 Enterprise detects patterns such as low disk space, unstable services, slower startup times, recurring crashes, or memory pressure, and presents them as clear, actionable insights through the Proactive Self-Service experience.

Each insight explains the detected issue in simple, non-technical language, helps identify likely contributing factors where enough information is available, and suggests an appropriate next step, such as a cleanup action or contacting IT. Automated remediation is not included: these insights describe a problem and recommend an action, they do not perform the action automatically.

Insights are first made visible for Agents in new application Insights. Agent can review and resolve insight with a suggestion Remediation action by his own, or delegate action execution to End Users. In this case,  insight will be shown in Self Service Poral at new Proactive Landing Page

The detection types currently defined are:

  • Low Disk Space
  • Unstable or Stopped Services
  • Startup Performance Degradation
  • Recurring Application Crashes and System Freezes
  • Memory Pressure

Low Disk Space

Neo analyzes available disk space, storage utilization, and usage trends collected through FastViewer to identify devices approaching critical storage limits, before the lack of free space leads to application errors, failed updates, or performance degradation.

By monitoring available capacity and detecting increasing storage consumption over time, Neo can flag a device before employees experience disruptions. For example, Neo may detect that a device's storage utilization has exceeded 90% and explain that insufficient disk space could prevent software updates, affect application performance, or cause system instability.

Where enough information is available, Neo can also help identify likely contributing factors, such as excessive temporary files, growing application data, or a recurring storage capacity issue.

Key Benefits

  • Early storage issue detection, before problems occur.
  • Storage trend analysis across time, not just a single snapshot.
  • System drive monitoring, including the Windows system drive specifically.
  • AI-powered analysis that distinguishes temporary cleanup opportunities from longer-term capacity issues.
  • Clear, non-technical explanation of the storage-related risk.
  • Actionable recommendations, such as removing temporary files or requesting IT assistance.

Unstable or Stopped Services

Neo identifies important Windows background services, such as those responsible for VPN connectivity, endpoint security, device management, or communication, that have stopped, become unstable, or repeatedly restarted, using endpoint information collected through FastViewer.

Neo analyzes the detected issue and explains its likely impact on the employee. For example, if a VPN service repeatedly stops, Neo can highlight that corporate network access may be affected and suggest an appropriate next step.

When the affected service becomes stable again, the corresponding insight can be updated or resolved automatically.

Key Benefits

  • Early detection of stopped, unstable, or repeatedly restarting Windows services.
  • Critical service monitoring, covering VPN, security, device-management, and communication services.
  • AI-powered analysis that explains the likely impact in understandable language.
  • Actionable insights with suggested next steps.
  • Automatic resolution of the insight once the affected service is stable again.

Startup Performance Degradation

Neo analyzes device startup, boot, and login performance, using data collected through FastViewer, to identify a meaningful change compared to a device's own historical behavior or to similar devices.

By tracking performance trends over time, Neo can detect a gradual degradation that might otherwise go unnoticed until employees experience a significant delay. For example, Neo may identify that a device's startup time has increased by 42% compared to the previous month and explain how this could affect the employee's daily productivity.

Where enough information is available, Neo can also help identify likely contributing factors, such as recently installed software, excessive startup applications, or a system configuration change.

Key Benefits

  • Early detection of increasing startup, boot, and login times, before they become a significant productivity issue.
  • Historical performance comparison against the device's own past behavior.
  • Performance trend analysis, recognizing gradual degradation over time.
  • AI-powered analysis of likely causes, such as software changes or startup applications.
  • Clear, non-technical explanation of the performance problem.
  • Actionable recommendations to help improve startup performance.

Recurring Application Crashes and System Freezes

Neo analyzes application failures, system freezes, and recurring error patterns, using data collected through FastViewer, to identify devices experiencing repeated stability problems.

By evaluating the frequency of crashes and monitoring stability trends over time, Neo can recognize a recurring issue that might indicate an underlying software problem, a configuration error, or general system instability. For example, Neo may identify that an application has crashed repeatedly over the last few days and explain that this could indicate a software or configuration issue affecting the employee's productivity.

Where enough information is available, Neo can also correlate similar crash events, analyze the available technical error information, and identify likely contributing factors, such as a problematic application version, a recent software update, or a configuration change.

Key Benefits

  • Proactive detection of applications that repeatedly crash or become unresponsive.
  • System stability monitoring, including recurring system freezes.
  • Error pattern analysis, recognizing similar failure patterns across events.
  • Stability trend analysis, identifying increasing crash frequency over time.
  • AI-powered analysis of likely causes, such as software defects, updates, or configuration problems.
  • Clear, non-technical explanation of the stability issue.
  • Actionable troubleshooting suggestions, including when to contact IT support.

Memory Pressure

Neo analyzes device memory consumption, using data collected through FastViewer, to identify consistently high RAM usage, recurring memory pressure, and increasing memory utilization over time.

By comparing usage patterns against expected thresholds or similar devices, Neo can detect a potential memory-related issue before employees experience a significant slowdown or an application failure. For example, Neo may identify that a device frequently uses more memory than expected and explain that this could cause applications to freeze, respond slowly, or become unstable.

Where enough information is available, Neo can also help identify likely contributing factors, such as a resource-intensive application, an abnormal background process, insufficient physical memory, or a temporary workload spike.

Key Benefits

  • Proactive monitoring of devices with consistently high or abnormal memory consumption.
  • Early detection of memory-related issues, before they significantly affect responsiveness or stability.
  • Memory usage trend analysis, recognizing recurring pressure and increasing consumption over time.
  • AI-powered analysis of likely causes, including resource-intensive applications or insufficient hardware.
  • Clear, non-technical explanation of the performance issue.
  • Actionable recommendations to help address memory-related performance problems.

Guided Remediation

Guided Remediation for End Users lets employees resolve common device problems directly from proactive device insights, using predefined remediation actions or AI-generated remediation scripts.

When Neo identifies a potential device issue, it recommends an appropriate remediation action. This can be either a predefined action from the remediation catalog or an AI-generated remediation script tailored to the specific device problem.

How It Works

  1. Neo identifies a device problem and recommends a remediation action or generates a remediation script.
  2. The Service Desk agent reviews and approves the recommended action.
  3. The agent can either execute the approved action directly or delegate execution to the affected employee.
  4. Once delegated, the remediation action becomes available in the employee's Proactive Self-Service experience, where it can be started with a single click.

Delegating execution to the end user is particularly useful when remediation may temporarily interrupt their work, such as restarting services, closing applications, or changing device settings, letting employees choose a convenient time to run the approved remediation.

Prerequisites

Proactive Device Insights requires a FastViewer integration and sufficient endpoint data collected through it; the specific data needed varies by detection type and is described in each detection's own article.

Availability

All five detection types are tagged Early Adopter for 26.2 in the source roadmap. Confirm current rollout status before publishing any of the articles in this family.
