Use a Local SMTP Test Server for Troubleshooting
Table of Contents
If you experience issues connecting the WebConference Server to your mail server, you can use a local SMTP test server to verify that WebConference Server can generate and send emails independently of your production mail system.
For testing purposes, we recommend smtp4dev, a free local SMTP server that captures outgoing emails without actually delivering them to the recipient.
Download and Install smtp4dev
- Go to the smtp4dev Releases page.
- From the table, select the latest release with the Windows x64 binary standalone - Desktop app edition description.
- Extract the archive, if required, and start the smtp4dev executable.
Configure the WebConference Server
Update the [Email] section in the WebConference Server settings.ini file as follows:
[Email]
SMTPHost=localhost
;SMTPPort=25
;SMTPUser=
;SMTPPass=
SMTPEnableSSL=false
SenderAddress=noreply@yourdomain.comReplace noreply@yourdomain.com with a sender address that matches your organization's naming conventions.
Verify Email Delivery
After saving the configuration:
- Make sure smtp4dev is running.
- Restart the WebConference Server service to apply the changes to settings.ini.
- Perform an action in the WebConference Server that sends an email. For example, [insert specific WebConsole/FastViewer action here].
- Open the smtp4dev window.
- Confirm that the generated email appears in the smtp4dev inbox.
You do not need to restart smtp4dev after changing the WebConference Server configuration. smtp4dev only needs to be running and listening on the configured SMTP port.
If the email appears in smtp4dev, your WebConference Server is generating and submitting emails correctly. If email delivery still fails when using your production SMTP server, check the production server's configuration, network connectivity, authentication, TLS/SSL requirements, and other security settings.
When to Use This
Use a local SMTP test server only for troubleshooting email delivery issues. In normal operation, the WebConference Server should be configured to use your organization's production mail server.
