This section defines the version, the layout, and the installation parameters of the software of the SwDepot.

  • Version=<Version number>
Specifies the version of SwDepot.exe for which the configuration file was written. If this entry is missing, version 3.0 is presumed. The current version can also process files which were written for an earlier version.
    Example: Version=11.1
  • ShowEmptyTabs=[0|1]
Specifies whether empty tabs are to be displayed.
    Example: ShowEmptyTabs=1
  • ShowAllPackages=[0|1]
Specifies whether all packages are to be displayed, independent of the rights a user has.
    Example: ShowAllPackages=1
  • UseExecuteRight=[0|1]
Specifies whether the parameter Check is to check for the executability of files instead of for their visibility. For NetWare servers it is more convenient to check for visibility, i.e. the file scan right (0), while for Windows NT servers the execute right should be checked (1), because otherwise you have to create a share for each package. The visibility in the software depot will then be determined by the Execute right.
    Example: UseExecuteRight=1
  • WarnOnNonAdminInstall=[0|1]
Specifies whether or not a warning is to be issued during the installation of packages on Windows systems.
  • CheckSetupService=[0|1]
Specifies whether it is to be checked whether the Setup Service is installed or not. If checking is turned on, no software will be installed unless the Setup Service is also installed on that machine. This setting is only used with Windows 2000 or higher.
    Example: CheckSetupService=0
  • HomeServerIsDistributionServer=[0|1]
Specifies whether the home server is identical with the found distribution server. In the case of 0, the registry key will not be overwritten and keeps the value of the server determined at the first startup.
    Example: HomeServerIsDistributionServer=1
  • LogRunning=[0|1]
To reduce the amount of the log files, it can be select here, if the log file with "Running" is written [1] or not [0].
  • ShowInfoTab=[0|1]
Specifies whether the Info tab is to be displayed or not.
    Example: ShowInfoTab=1
  • ShowInfoTabIcon=[0|1]
Specifies whether a small icon is to be displayed on the Info tab or not.
    Example: ShowInfoTabIcon=1
  • UseNetWareLogon=[0|1]
Specifies whether the Setup Service should log on to a NetWare server if the NetWare driver is installed on the machine. This should normally be the case. But the function can be turned off if, for example, the file SwDepot.dds resides on a NetWare server while the packages reside on a Windows server.
    Example: UseNetWareLogon=1
  • TopmostInstallDialog=[0|1]
Refers to the installation dialog box (parameter /Zx). This dialog box is always displayed at the top right.
    Example: TopmostInstallDialog=1
  • CheckDependenciesOnUninstall=[0|1]
If this option is active, the dependencies are also taken into consideration during uninstall of a software. A software package can thus not be uninstalled, if this package is entered as a dependency for another package.
    Example: CheckDependenciesOnUninstall=1
  • CheckSetupInfVersion=[0|1]
If this option is active, "/V:%Version%;%Revision%" is transmitted when executing Setup.exe. This means the version and revision specified in the DDS file. Setup then checks this version and revision specified in the Setup.inf. If it does not correspond, the message "The existing version or revision on the server does not correspond with the requested version or revision! The installation is cancelled." is displayed. The error is then returned as Requirement Error to the Software Depot, where it will be logged accordingly. This keeps a package from being installed with the wrong Setup.inf. (cascaded server connected with Sync).
    Example: CheckSetupInfVersion=1
  • CheckRevisionOnUninstall=[0|1]
has as an effect, that a package can only be uninstalled if exactly this package with the exact version and revision is installed. If the value is 0, the uninstall can also take place if a newer revision already exists on the server (in the DDS). (the version still has to be the same).
    Example: CheckRevisionOnUninstall=1
  • UseSetupService=[0|1|2]
Specifies whether the Setup Service should be used for the installation on a protected PC. If the service is not running or if the value is set to 0, a normal installation will be carried out. If the value is set to 1, the Setup Service will always be used. If the value is set to 2 and the PC is protected (the user is not a member of the local group "Administrators"), the Setup Service will also be used. Within the security context of the system, the Setup Service is able to install software even on a protected Windows workstation. This setting is only used with Windows 2000 or higher.
    Example: UseSetupService=2
  • CallUserSetup=[0|1|2]
Specifies whether after a machine-specific installation (via Setup /AW) the user-specific part should be installed, too. If the value is set to 0, no user-specific part will be installed (Only apply to the Legacy Agent). If the value is set to 1, this part will be installed without additional user queries by the software depot. If the value is set to 2, the user-specific part will be skipped. The user can install it later via the Control Panel (Only apply to the Legacy Agent).
    Example: CallUserSetup=2
  • LogFileName=<File name>
Specifies the file name to which a log file will be written. The file reports which applications have been installed by the software depot. If the file name is not fully specified, the directory in which the file SwDepot.dds resides will be placed in front. Every user has to have write permissions in that directory for the software depot to be able to append the data. The information which will be written there depends on the columns defined in LogColumns.
    Example: LogFileName=%Tmp%\SwDepot.log
This section defines environment variables which can be used to better adapt the configuration to different environments. They can be used via %Variable%, where " Variable" stands for a real variable.
Variable Meaning
EXACTSYSTime Current time in the format HH:MM:SS.mmm.
LONGSYSTime Current time in the format HH:MM:SS.
SYSDATE Current date in the format DD/MM/YYYY.
SYSTIME Current time in the format HH:MM.
  • LogColumns=<Column name>[, <Column name> …]
Specifies the columns which are to be written to the log file specified by LogFileName. The file is a table with multiple columns which is saved in the <Tab/Return> format. There are a number of predefined columns. If a column name is not recognized, the software depot tries to use an environment variable of that name instead. This allows you to include virtually any values in the table. Only if no log file exists will the column names be added. If, on the other hand, the log file already exists, the first row will be read and interpreted as the column names. The value LogColumns will then be ignored. This ensures that the table remains consistent.
Column Name Meaning
Date Date of installation.
Time Time of installation.
DomainName Name of domain or workgroup.
ComputerName Name of computer.
WindowsUser Name of the user logged on to Windows.
PackageName Human-readable name of the package.
Version Version number of the package.
Revision Revision number of the package or empty if the number is 0.
Mode Installation mode: Install, Uninstall, Update, Reinstall, Downgrade as well as, possibly, Machine or User.
Result Result of the installation: Success or Failure.
Error Writes a message into SWDepot.log if the package was not found on the server.
Variable Any environment variable, e.g. NW_USER.

Example: LogColumns= Date, Time, DomainName, ComputerName, WindowsUser, NW_USER, PackageName, Version, Revision, Mode, Result, CmdLine

  • ClientSetupErrorLog=
Specifies the file name where a log file shall be written after the user-specific part (/C). It provides information on which applications were installed via the software depot in the user context.
    Example:
    \\%EmpirumServer%\Software Management$\Log\SetupErrorLog\%%DomainName%%.%%ComputerName%%.%%SysDate%%_%%ExactSysTime%%.log
  • TokenPathName
Defines the path to the token files. The number of tokens is defined in the tool DBUtil in the menu > Actions > Install/Configure Services > Empirum Activation Service under Number of Tokens.
If, for instance, 20 is set under Number of Tokens, 20 token files (Tokenxxx.tok) will be created in the directory specified here. This number will then be the maximum number of simultaneous downloads.
Tokens are only used when using SMB as transport protocol.
Example: %Directory%\Tokens (relative to the parent directory).
  • DistributionServers=<Servername>[, <Servername> …]
Specifies the servers from which the installation packages are to be loaded. The servers will be searched from left to right. The first server which is available will be used as the variable %SoftwareDepotServerName%. For this to work correctly, the packages must not be defined with a fix server name, but rather with the variable %SoftwareDepotServerName% or a variable which in turn uses that variable. The value DistributionServers will be stored in the registry so that this information will also be available if the file SwDepot.dds cannot be loaded from the server.
    Example: DistributionServers=\\Distribution1, \\Distribution2

The following five commands are required, for example, to disable a virus scanner before the package installation, and to enable it again. A command entered here is valid for all installations.

  • CommonPreCommand=<Command>
Only supported by Legacy Agent. This command will be executed at start and polling interval of SwDepot. If the returning error code is 10042 (ErrorLevel=10042), no further actions will be executed (installation / deinstallation / writing logs).
  • PreCommandMachine=<Command>
This command is carried out before the installation of the machine-specific part.
  • PostCommandMachine=<Command>
This command is carried out after the installation of the machine-specific part.
  • PreCommandClient=<Command>
This command is carried out before the installation of the user-specific part.
  • PostCommandClient=<Command>
This command is carried out after the installation of the user-specific part.
CommonPreCommand is not included at the installation of the kiosk!
There are always following orders for the installation / uninstallation, if the individual Pre-/PostCommands are configured:
Ordering Action
1 CommonPreCommand
2 PreCommandMachine
3 PreCommandClient
4 Software Installations
5 PostCommandClient
6 PostCommandMachine

Registry entry under HKLM\Software\Matrix42\Software Depot\.

  • RunningInUserMode
Value = 1 is created by SwDepot.exe (Legacy Agent), if started via RUN line or login script. If SwDepot.exe is executed both as service and as task, SwDepot.exe as service will sleep as long as the entry exists in the registry. This makes it possible to configure SwDepot.exe as service and as task at the same time.

For more information on the effects of the variables, see the manual for the Matrix42 UEM Agent.
