Defines an application

  • Check=File | Directory
Defines the file or directory for which the user has to have read permission to install the application. If the value is empty, all strings from CmdLine will be checked. If CmdLine consists of multiple parameters (file names), this check will be faster. Further below, it can also be accessed via %Check%. The switch UseExecuteRight has an influence to the test behavior of Check.
  • CheckReg=Command line
Specifies a key or value from the registry required for the installation of the application. If a value is not empty, it will be checked in addition to Check.
  • CmdLine=Command line
Defines the command line to start the installation. A command may contain double inverted commas to call file names with spaces. The software depot waits for the command to complete before calling further commands. In some cases, however, a command starts another command and returns immediately. In that case, the software depot is unable to wait.
  • ExternalSetup=[0|1]
If the value is set to 1, CmdLine is an external setup program, i.e. a setup program which is not included in this package is called. You should specify this because the silent mode can only be activated by using the parameter /T in conjunction with the internal setup program.
  • CallAsynchronous=[0|1]
Specifies whether the setup program is to be called asynchronously. In this case, the software depot does not wait for the setup program to terminate, but rather continues immediately with the next installation. That means, however, that the software depot cannot determine whether the installation was successful. This option is only required if the Setup Service itself is to be distributed. The service cannot be replaced as long as it is still running, i.e. as long as it is waiting for the termination of the installation.
  • Dependencies=
Specifies the sequence of installation between the selected package and the package(s) that are defined in the Sequence dialog box. This way, you can, for instance, avoid the full version has to be installed on the computer before installing a software updated.
  • Requirements=
Specifies the package(s), from which the selected package is dependent. In case the dependent package is not installed and/or no distribution command has been created for the dependent package, the selected package is not installed either.
  • Distribution=[0|1]
If the value is set to 1, the application will only be shown if the software is distributed. Otherwise, the application is invisible. If the property is missing, the value 0 is presumed. This allows you to define applications that cannot be installed by the user, but only via software distribution.
  • AllowUninstallation=[0|1]
Specifies whether the package may be uninstalled. You can select the Uninstall button in the software depot.
  • Discontinue=[0|1]
Specifies that after the installation of this package, the installation of additional packages will be discontinued. This may be necessary if a reboot has to be performed in the meantime. This option can be overwritten with the value Reboot=5 / SetReboot 5 within the Setup.inf of a package. Reboot=5 / SetReboot 5 will discontinue the installation sequence and initiate a reboot.
  • Icon=File name[, Number]
Defines the icon which is to appear in the application list. Number defines the index in the icon file File name. If no number is specified, the first icon will be used. The numbering starts at zero.
  • InfoFile=File name
Defines a file which contains additional information on the application. This may be an end user license agreement, for instance. The user can request this information at any time. The Info… button is only available on a tab if there is at least one application that defines such a file. The contents of the file can be ordinary text or text in rich text format (*.rtf).
  • ProductKey=Key[, Value]
Defines the location in the registry database (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software), where the version number of an application is specified. You always have to define the parent key (e.g. Microsoft\Office), where the version number is to be found. If the version number is not located inside a key but in a value, the value name (e.g. Novell, CurrentVersion) has to be specified. If the key name includes a comma, the whole key has to be included in double inverted commas. Instead of the registry, you can use the version number of a file by specifying ProductFile.
  • ProductFile=File[, Flags]
Defines the file from which the version number for the installed file is to be extracted. You can use this instead of the ProductKey. In that case, however, the file has to contain valid version information. In addition, the destination directory should be specified. If that directory is not specified, the system looks for the file as a DLL. If the file is still not found, the system looks for the appropriate key for EXE files in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsCurrentVersion\App Paths) and uses that path specification instead. For flags, you can specify the same values as for VersionFile.
  • Version=Version
Defines the version number as shown in the list as "Version (available)". Provided it is larger than 0, the revision number is inserted after the version number. Instead of the version number (e.g. Version=4.0), a file containing version information can be specified via VersionFile. From this file, the version information will be extracted. Instead of a number, a string can be used, e.g. Service Pack 3. The version is compared after the first dot per column. Because of that, version 1.45 is newer than 1.100 (NOT 45 is less 100). You have to compare each digit in order from left to right. The comparison of each digit in order from left to right is aborted, if the new is equal or greater than the origin.
  • Revision=Revision
Defines the revision number as shown in the list as "Version (available)". Provided it is larger than 0, the revision number will be added to the version number. For certain DDS setup programs, an increase of the revision number does not necessitate a re-installation of the entire application. For this reason, the revision number should always be increased after minor changes, such as the replacement of a file. As a revision, only a integer value can be used.
  • VersionFile=File[, Flags]
Defines a version number and a revision number from a file which contains the version information (e.g. VersionFile=MSOffice.exe). From this file, the version information will be extracted. As flags you can optionally specify one or more values separated by spaces:
Flag Meaning
NORMAL No special treatment (default).
RAW Uses the exact value from the version information if you also specify the flag NUMBER. If you do not specify this flag, trailing zeroes will be optimized so that, for example, 3.50 will become 3.5.
FILE Uses the file version instead of the product version (default).
PRODUCT Uses the product version instead of the file version.
TEXT Uses the text definition of the version instead of the number definition (default).
NUMBER Uses the number definition of the version instead of the text definition. The numbers consist of 4 blocks, e.g. 4.10.12.20. If RAW is not specified, you will get 4.1.1220. In addition, the last two blocks will be combined to form the revision number, which is common practice.
