Overview

Matrix42 Enterprise supports MCP (Model Context Protocol), enabling secure integration with external AI agents and MCP-compatible tools. The MCP for Enterprise Platform extension allows organizations to expose Matrix42 Enterprise platform capabilities as governed MCP tools, enabling external AI assistants and automation solutions to interact with Enterprise through a standardized protocol.

This provides a foundation for integrating Matrix42 Enterprise into broader AI ecosystems, letting organizations extend their AI-driven processes beyond the platform while maintaining control over exposed capabilities.

Key Capabilities

  • Connect Matrix42 Enterprise with external AI agents and MCP-compatible applications using the Model Context Protocol.
  • Enable third-party AI solutions to interact with Matrix42 Enterprise capabilities.
  • Expose Enterprise capabilities as controlled, governed MCP tools.
  • Support secure interaction between external AI solutions and Matrix42 Enterprise.

Central Tool Registry

All tools and actions appear in a centralized administration table. Each registered tool shows standardized metadata, including:

  • Tool name and description.
  • Source, category, and version.
  • Required inputs and expected outputs.
  • Required permissions and technical dependencies.
  • Operation type: read-only, modifying, destructive, or externally executed.
  • Availability and lifecycle status.

Tools contributed by installed extensions and external providers are registered automatically, and the registry reflects changes when extensions or providers are installed, updated, or removed. Unavailable or technically incompatible tools cannot be executed.

Tool Access Configuration

Tool access is managed independently for each ESM instance using two access levels:

  • Unrestricted: the tool is available to all users, subject to their existing application permissions and technical prerequisites.
  • Restricted: the tool is available only to users who have been explicitly granted access.

By default, all registered tools are unrestricted. Administrators can change the access level of any tool, and configuration changes take effect without requiring product redeployment.

User Access Management

For restricted tools, administrators can grant individual users access, revoke previously granted access, and view the list of currently authorized users. Access restrictions are enforced both during tool discovery and during execution, so unauthorized users cannot see or run restricted tools.

Availability and Prerequisites

  • Installation: available through the Matrix42 Extension Gallery.
  • Integration: requires an external MCP-compatible AI agent or application.
  • Configuration: exposed platform capabilities must be configured and governed according to organizational requirements.
  • Subscription: an active Neo subscription is required to use the MCP for Enterprise Platform extension.
