After installing Empirum on a server, first the EmpLocations database has to be created.

Here you have now the possibility, to log on to the database server via the database authentication, as before (do not tick the checkbox in front of Use Windows Authentication), but also via the new Windows Authentication.

The Windows Authentication can only be used if the user authentication takes place via the Active Directory Services (ADS) from Microsoft in your company!

If workgroups are used, the authentication has to take place like before, via the database authentication.

If the checkbox in front of Use Windows Authentication is ticked, the logon to Empirum DBUtil will generally take place only via the Windows Authentication.

If you use Windows authentication when creating the EmpLocations database, you must also use it for the locations. Ensure that the same authentication method is used for EmpLocations and the locations in DBUtil. This does not apply for the Empirum Management Console, where you can use a combination of the two methods.

In order to be able to log on to Empirum DBUtil with "dbo" permissions, one of the following conditions have to be met:

  • The user logging on has to be a member of the Domain Admins group.
  • The user logging on is member of the local administrators group on the server running the SQL server.
  • If the user logging on is not a member of any of the groups mentioned above, then Empirum DBUtil can be executed via Run As....

After the EmpLocations database has been created with "Use Windows Authentication", the logon to Empirum DBUtil takes place with the user information of the user logging on.

In the Empirum DBUtil main dialog, the location databases can also be created with Windows Authentication.
