Software classes are defined in the Configurator module > Depot tab > Classes exclusively. In the Manager module, you can assign these classes to the configuration groups.

To increase the usability, you can click Show Content… to display the content and a description of a software class in the context menu of this class or the respective configuration group.

Configuring classes provides the basis for a simpler and more flexible handling of dependencies. The classes only exist in the Empirum Management Console (database). The clients do not know about classes, since these classes are removed during activation.

Software classes are divided into two categories.

  • AND Classes: Each package of the class must be installed to be able to install a package which is dependent on this class. If an AND class is assigned to a configuration group or software group, each package of this class is installed on the client.
  • OR Classes: At least one package of the class must be installed to be able to install a package which is dependent on this class. OR classes cannot be assigned to a configuration group or software group; they only exist for the purpose of defining dependencies. In case of indirect assignments through a dependent package, only those class members of an OR class are displayed that shall actually be installed, not the whole OR class.
