In the past, it was possible to transfer software to locations, only to approved depots, for instance, to provide customer- or language-specific packages. Now, it is also possible to use DDS Compare to selectively transfer packages to depot servers without the need to synchronize the whole structure. This facilitates the connection of remote locations with low bandwidth significantly, since only changes in the DDS file are checked.
Changes / improvements in DDSCompare (ESubdepot_Packages_DDSCompare):
- New variable PackageDirectory to specify the package directory. If no value is found, the conventional method of reading the variable SrcDir in the application section of Setup.inf. will be applied.
- New variable Script for the installation instruction file (in the past, this was the Setup.inf file exclusively). As a rule, the value of this variable is the last one to be copied to the destination. If no value is found, the conventional method of reading the Check variable will be applied.
- It is possible to create subdirectories in the Packages source directory; they are only used for separate synchronization.
- DDSCompare can process two new configuration parameters: /exclude:directory list and /include:directory list.
If the DDSCompare Sync Job enclosed by Matrix42 is used, the User Sync Job can be dropped for this depot server since the function is contained in it.
/exclude:directory list
All packages in the directories and subdirectories that are specified in the directory list are ignored, even if they are listed in the SwDepot.dds file. The entry \Packages without a subdirectory means that all packages are excluded. The directory list consists of directory names, separated by commas.
Examples:
DDSCompare.exe %SYNC_DST% %SYNC_SRC% /exclude:'\Packages\Adobe\Acrobat Reader ENU'
DDSCompare.exe %SYNC_DST% %SYNC_SRC% /exclude:%PACKAGEDIRLIST1%
DDSCompare.exe %SYNC_DST% %SYNC_SRC% /exclude:'\Packages\Adobe\Acrobat Reader ENU,\Packages\Helios\TextPad ENU'
DDSCompare.exe %SYNC_DST% %SYNC_SRC% /exclude:%PACKAGEDIRLIST1%,%PACKAGEDIRLIST2%
/include:directory list
All packages in the directories and subdirectories that are specified in the directory list are synchronized. If a directory is specified, this means that all subdirectories are included. The entry \Packages without a subdirectory means that the behavior of this Sync template remains the same as in the past. Packages listed in the SwDepot.dds file are only considered if they are stored in the listed directories.
Examples:
DDSCompare.exe %SYNC_DST% %SYNC_SRC% /include:'\Packages\Training'
DDSCompare.exe %SYNC_DST% %SYNC_SRC% /include:%PACKAGEDIRLIST1%
DDSCompare.exe %SYNC_DST% %SYNC_SRC% /include:%PACKAGEDIRLIST1%,%PACKAGEDIRLIST2%
If /exclude and /include are used simultaneously, the process is aborted and an error message is created and displayed in the Sync monitor.
Names may contain spaces. An entry in a directory list must start with "\Packages" and must map the structure of the respective subdirectory, but must not specify the subdirectory "%PackageRootID%" or "%PackageID%" again. Specifying a folder means that all of its subfolders are included. An entry in the directory list that does not start with "\Packages" will be ignored. DDSCompare compares the entries from the directory list to the specifications listed in the SwDepot.dds file in the "PackageDirectory" variable above "%PackageRootID%" or "%PackageID%". If the "PackageDirectory" variable is empty, no comparison can be made. In such cases, the package will be copied if DDSCompare has been launched with an exclude list; if it is launched with an include list, it will be ignored.
A directory list can be represented by the computer variable PACKAGEDIRLIST<0-99> from the "text" type, which will be resolved during installation, based on the specifications in the Setup.inf, written into the Syc file. A directory list may also be entered directly in the start line for DDSCompare in the wizard.
The start line for DDSCompare can contain up to 516 characters (including commas, inverted commas), excluding the number of characters needed for source and destination paths and the keywords /exclude: or include:. If the directory list is specified as variable, it may contain up to 2000 characters (including commas).
If a depot server shall be assigned several jobs that use DDSCompare, additional templates (context menu > Duplicate) must be created, i.e., additional directory lists and variables must also be defined.
Paths must be specified in inverted commas (see examples). If a path is specified via a computer variable, no inverted commas must be used.
