In these examples we start from the Example Software Management created in Empirum Software Management (see Software Management help).

  • No dependencies were entered for Package Test1.
  • Package Test1 was entered as dependency for Package Test2.
  • Package Test1 and NOT Test2 were entered as dependencies for package Test3.

Three configuration groups were created, and the test packages were assigned and activated as defined in the Dependencies.

Configuration Group Example 1

Right-click on the configuration group Example 1 and select the menu item Software Dependencies.

As defined in the module Software Management > Depot tab, the software dependencies are only shown first.

SWM_KONS_002

You can see, that package Test2 depends on package Test1. If you click now on the button Consistency Check, no errors are displayed, because the definition of the dependencies has been performed correctly, and both packages have been assigned and activated.

By clicking right on a configuration group or a software packet, you can set the distribution commands.

  • Consistency Check. The actual checking for inconsistencies of the specified dependencies takes place. The areas with inconsistencies receive the SWM_Konsistenzfehler symbol.

The check can take a very long time, depending on the assigned packages, the configuration group level and the assigned dependencies per package!

  • Refresh. The view in this window is refreshed, for instance after editing.
  • Insert. This button allows you to add additional packages to the selected configuration group.
  • Delete. Opens a dialog field in which you can set whether the selected package is to be deleted or uninstalled.
  • Edit. Opens the Dependencies dialog, in which you can edit directly the specified dependencies of the selected package.

Symbol Significance:

Symbol Meaning
SWM_AND AND The superior package depends on the package, in front of which this symbol can be found. This package must be installed on the computer, if the superior package has to be installed.
SWM_AND_NOT AND NOT The superior package depends on the package in front of which this symbol is located. This package must NOT be installed on the computer, if the superior package is to be installed.
SWM_OR OR Marks a group of packages. The superior package depends on this or another package, in front of which this symbol can be found. This or another package must be installed on the computer, if the superior package is to be installed.
SWM_OR_NOT OR NOT Marks a group of packages. The superior package depends on this or another package, in front of which this symbol can be found. This or another package must not be installed on the computer, if the superior package is to be installed.
SWM_Konsistenzfehler The package, the superior package(s) and the superior register receive this symbol if at least one inconsistency has been detected.

Configuration Group Example 2

Right-click the configuration group Example 2, select the menu item Software Dependencies and click on the Consistency Check button.

SWM_KONS_003

You can see that package Test3 depends on package Test1 and NOT on package Test2. No errors are displayed here either, because the definition of dependencies has been performed correctly, and only the packages have been assigned and activated, so that no conflict with the dependencies is caused.

Configuration Group Example

Right-click the configuration group Example 3, select the menu item Software Dependencies and click the Consistency Check button.

SWM_KONS_004

You can see that package Test3 depends on package Test1 and NOT on package Test2. Inconsistencies are displayed because all three packages have been assigned to the configuration group and activated.

Two solutions exist.

  • The package Test2 was wrongly assigned to this configuration group
Select the package Test2 and click on the Delete Entfernen button.
  • The dependencies for package Test3 were defined wrong
Select the package Test2 and click on the Edit Bearbeiten button.

After you have made the changes, click again on the Consistency Check button. Only when the Inconsistency symbol SWM_Konsistenzfehler is no longer displayed, all assigned packages are installed cleanly, without an error message in the log.
