This window displays the defined DHCP options. After a DHCP request from a client, these variables are read out and the Matrix42 Agent writes them into the environment of the respective client.

The defined DHCP options in the EPE (Empirum Preboot Environment) are also used for operating system installations. If the DHCP options have been configured correctly, EPE images synchronized on the depot server need not be adapted and modified with the PXEImageChanger, since client-relevant settings are dynamically transferred during runtime.

  1. Launch Empirum DBUtil and log into your location database.
  2. Go to Actions > Install/Configure Services... > Empirum-PXE, right-click the displayed server and select Setup DHCP Options...
    DBUtil_Dienste_0021

Use the Setup DHCP Options... dialog to define new variables and edit or delete existing variables.

If the DHCP option is changed, the Empirum Agent-Template must be saved again. After the change all values appear in the template.

Options defined on the highest level (Empirum-PXE) are inherited to all subordinated PXE servers. Values specified for individual PXE servers will only apply for the respective server and will not be inherited.

Please ensure that it is not allowed to define DHCP options with a '.' in the name.
A value for an option must not contain more than 256 characters. This is only important if the value is not configured via DBUtil. In DBUtil it is not possible to enter more than 256 characters.

If the DHCP options in the EPE configuration (disk configuration) are enabled (checked), the IP address of the installation server should not be specified.

Exception: If you do not follow our recommendation and continue to use the PXEImageChanger, you can also specify the IP address.

The passwords of specified users should be encrypted with /Setup encryption, since all values transferred via the DHCP protocol are sent in plain text.

When a Microsoft DHCP server is used, the DHCP options must not be EIS-encrypted, since such encryption would mask special characters with a backslash, which would not allow decryption in EPE.

If a DHCP option is defined or modified, the EPE image must be created again and synchronized on the depot server, if necessary.

If a dedicated DHCP server (e.g., Windows DHCP Server) is used for transferring the DHCP options, we recommend that you do not configure the values via DBUtil.

  • EmpirumServer
Only required when the old Agent is used, for backward compatibility purposes.
  • EmpUser
Domain join authorization is only required if the EmpInstUser is not defined. Otherwise, this user can be used for software distribution.
    EmpPW
    Password
  • EmpInstUser
    Domain join authorization is required.
  • EmpInstPW
    Password of the EmpInstUser (SETUP/SYNC-encryption).

Use the tool EmpCrypt.exe to encrypt the passwords. You will find the application under the directory Empirum\AddOns\Encrypter. See EmpCrypt encryption.

  • EmpSrvLong
Fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the Empirum servers (e.g.: server.example.com) for the OS-installation via EPE.

The form of the variables "EmpInstUser" and "EmpUser" should be as follows:

  • EmpInstUser = <domain name>\<user name>
  • EmpUser = <domain name>\<user name>
  • EmpSrvLong = contains the FQDN name of the Matrix42 server, which is used by EPE.
