How to define the distribution option for the selected software package:
- Right-click the software package whose distribution options you want to configure and select Distribution Commands... from the popup menu.
- Select the desired parameters and confirm your settings with OK.
-
Scheduling: Opens the Scheduler dialog box.
Use the scheduler to define the start and end time, the interval, and how often and until which time the distribution is to be performed.- Action
- One time: Setting for standard packages. The schedule for this package can only be defined under Schedule, all other settings are grayed out. The package is executed once, you may define an action to be performed after the end date has expired.
- Recurring: All settings are available, you can create an individual schedule for this package.
- Duration
- Start: The distribution is started on the set date.
- No end date: Distribution is performed until the job is deactivated.
- End by: The distribution command ends at the end date defined by you. In the Distribution Commands dialog box you can also define an action to be performed after the end date has expired.
- Recurrence:
- Once from: Start time for the job.
- Each: Here you can specify the regular intervals when the job shall be performed (each X minutes, hours, days or weeks). The package is reinstalled each time. This makes, for instance, sense for applications that are continuously updated with new files, or for the package Empirum Patch-Management Client.
- Start: Start time for the job.
- End: End time for the job.
- Recurrence pattern
- Daily / Weekly/ Monthly: The distribution is made according to the selection—either daily, weekly, or monthly.
- Every 1 day(s): The distribution can be performed every X days.
- Every business day: The distribution is performed every business day, but not on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Perform overdue job / installation: This option makes sure that missed or overdue distributions are made up within the defined series sample as soon as the Empirum agent works again (e.g. the computer was turned off).
- Action
- Removing: Removes the schedule, if you have specified a schedule for the distribution of this package.
-
Action after time laps: If you define an end time for the distribution via the scheduler, select the action to be performed after the end time has expired.
- Enforce: The installation of the package is enforced after the expiration of the end time, even if the user can postpone.
- Reverse: After the expiration of the end time, the action is reversed, i.e. install becomes uninstall.
-
Use WOL: If you have used the scheduler to define a distribution action, you can specify that the respective computers are woken up via the Wake-on-LAN functionality prior to installation.
WOL activation may result in high loads on the service server.
-
Commands
- Install: The package will be installed if it does not already exist on the computer.
- Update: The package will be updated if an older version is installed on the computer.
- Always enforce: The package will always be updated, even if it is already installed on the computer. This could be helpful if you want to reinstall missing files, for instance. This box should in no case be checked unnecessarily, since large packages would also be installed over and over again.
- Uninstall: The package will be uninstalled if it already exists on the computer.
- User can postpone: The user gets the possibility to not install this software package for the time being.
If postpone possible and a value is selected, the user can postpone the installation/de-installation of the package in the installation dialog for a corresponding number of days. If no value is specified, it can be postponed indefinitely. A shift generates a message in the software depot log.
If several software packages with different postponements are assigned, the next option for all packages is displayed.
After the last possible postpone, all software packages are installed without being displayed again in the installation dialog. The behavior of the installation dialog is configured in the Agent Template.
If the user checks whether new software is available outside of agent polling, no log is written when software is postponed.
After the last possible postpone, all software packages are installed without being displayed again in the installation dialog. The behavior of the installation dialog is configured in the Agent Template. - Optional (Un-)Install: The user is offered this package optionally. It is installed only if the user agrees, if no expiration date is specified, or if the expiration date is in the future. Once the expiration date is passed, the package is no longer optional and is processed according to the other settings.
Packages with the distribution option "optional" and an expiration date are downloaded to the agent cache. - Enforce Machine part: The machine part will be updated once, even if it is already installed on the computer. The scheduler will be ignored. The package is NOT shown in the z-dialog.
- Enforce Client part: The user part will be updated once, even if it is already installed on the computer. The scheduler will be ignored. The package is NOT shown in the z-dialog.
- Hide: The package is NOT shown in the z-dialog. This flag makes sense for packages, where the user shall NOT reject (e.g. Patch-Management).
- Cache locally: As a rule, the package will not be deleted on the client, even if the Delete packages after option in the General Settings of the Empirum Agent specifies that the package shall be deleted (applies for the Advanced Agent and the UEM Agent from Version 2104.1.2).
- Ignore Installation Time Frame: If it is set, the specified installation time frame is ignored and installation packages can be installed outside of the installation time frame, e.g. when urgent security updates must be performed due to a virus attack.
Packages with the command force or hide will be installed before all other packages.
- Apply for all subordinated elements: Applies the settings for all packages in the subordinated groups (only possible for groups).
