The following basic steps are required for a successful inventory of network devices:
- Install the Empirum Device Discovery service via Empirum DBUtil on a server.
- Create a configuration. Alternatively, you may also use the supplied standard configuration; in this case, you can skip point 3.
- Create a job.
- Activate the job.
- Assign the configuration to an existing server.
Now the network devices are automatically detected and inventoried (depending on device and scan method). The detected network devices are displayed under Miscellaneous Devices in the Management > Administration > Miscellaneous Devices > Known Devices and Management > Inventory navigation pane.
There is also the option to detect network devices via SNMP. Automatic detection of SNMP devices (active) is managed through the SNMP Rules and Mappings. Empirum Inventory supplies a list of SNMP rules for detection purposes. More rules can be added as desired.
