Ports are address components used in network protocols to assign data segments to the correct services (protocols).
A port number has a size of 16 bits, i.e., its value can range between 0 and 65535. Certain applications use fixed port numbers that are assigned by IANA and are generally known. In most cases, they range between 0 and 1023 and are called well-known ports. Registered ports range between 1024 and 49151.
