The http(s) protocol can be used to manage computers via the Internet. It is supported for software distribution, patch management and inventory tasks and is the standard protocol for the Matrix42 cloud offering.

To enable computers to access the depot with the Empirum Advanced Agent via http / https, this option must be configured for these protocols accordingly. FTP is required for installing operating systems on Linux computers.

At present, Empirum offers the following option for automated depot configuration for these protocols:

IIS http(s) – Uses Internet Information Server, which is supplied with Windows operating systems. Configuration is done via the subdepot variables, if WEBSERVER = IIS and the respective variables have been filled correctly.

The Empirum Subdepot Webservice Configuration package performs a completely automated IIS installation and configuration. If IIS is already available on the depot server, a virtual directory will be added.

There is also the option to configure IIS for FTP. The variable FTPSERVER = IIS must be set for this purpose.
