Creating a Variable Duplicating and Configuring the Sync Template

This page provides a complete description of how to configure DDSCompare with the new parameters (/include, /exclude). The description is based on the /include parameter, including the use of the %PACKAGEDIRLIST1% variable. The process is identical for the /exclude parameter.

To ensure the correct synchronization source > destination, the prerequisites described under Sync Templates must be fulfilled.

In this exemplary configuration, we assume that the Empirum Master Server and the Empirum Depot Server are configured, as described.

If more than one Sync job with DDSCompare is used, a separate check file must be specified for the second and all subsequent Sync jobs; otherwise, synchronization of the SwDepot.dds file with the one existing SwDepot.sck file would fail. Use the /ddsfile: parameter to specify this file and suitable excludes to ensure that these SCK files are not deleted when performing a Sync job of the user directory.

Creating a Variable

This step is only required if the package list shall be passed per variable; a maximum of 99 variables can be defined.

  1. Launch the Empirum Management Console (EMC) and go to Management > Administration in the navigation pane.
  2. Go to Tools > Variable Definition or click the Define Variable Variablen_definieren icon in the icon bar.
  3. Click Hinzufuegen Add.
  4. Enter the name PACKAGEDIRLIST1 for the variable in the respective field right hand-side (description is optional). Do not change the variable type (Computer) and the control field (Text).
  5. Check the Default value box to enable this option and enter the folders to be included or excluded as value (in this example \Packages\Training).

  6. Click OK to confirm your settings
  7. Click OK to close the Variable Definition dialog.

Duplicating and Configuring the Sync Template

For the include command, we create a copy of the Sync template ESubdepot_Packages_DDSCompare and modify it accordingly.

  1. Right-click the Sync template ESubdepot_Packages_DDSCompare and select Duplicate…

  2. Enter a name for the new Sync template (in this example, ESubdepot_Packages_DDSCompare_Incl) and click OK.
    The new template is listed under Sync Templates.
  3. Right-click the Sync template you have created and select Properties, or double-click the template.
  4. The paths for source and destination will not be changed; click Next >.
  5. The General options will not be changed, click Next >.
  6. Do not change the file size, scheduler and bandwidth, click Next >.
  7. Do not change the directories and files to be excluded, click Next >.

  8. Mark the Init command and click Edit.
  9. Add the value /include:%PACKAGEDIRLIST1% to the value DDSCompare.exe %SYNC_DST% %SYNC_SRC%.

  10. Click OK and then Finish in the Sync templates dialog.
  11. Drag the modified Sync template into the configuration group of the Empirum Depot Server (see also Assigning Empirum Sync Templates).
  12. Right-click the configuration group and select Aktivieren Activate (Pull via DDS/DDC, commands: Install, Update).

The Sync template will now be installed on the depot server, and Empirum Sync will only synchronize the directories on the depot server that are specified in the variable %PACKAGEDIRLIST1%.
